October 20, 2003 Back
This was our start up meeting. I went into the Wellsville schools
and promoted 4-H during National 4-H Week which is the first week in
October. During this promotion I handed out flyers annoucing the
club starting up and that today was going to be the first
meeting. Four youth showed up for this first meeting. I
developed an awards system for activities completed and will handout
awards at the end of the year. For our first meeting we learned
to recite the 4-H Pledge, filled out some paperwork, had refreshments,
developed an awards chart, acted out skits and played 4-H Bingo.
Winners of the games earned points. The craft for this meeting
was Halloween balloon people. We blew up green ballons and
painted faces on them to make them look like witches, pumpkins, ghost,
etc. The kids had a blast.

At this meeting we discussed bringing friends to join the club.
The members of the club that brought friends to join, earned points
towards their year end awards. We had four new members making our
club members totaling eight. We had the new members fill out some
paperwork, taught them the 4-H pledge and showed them our favorite game
to play - 4-H Bingo! After bingo we had refreshments and then started
on our craft. Our craft was using rubber stamps to make
leaves on paper. The kids learned how to apply the paint and
press the stamps to the paper. A good thing to learn for later
craft projects. The weather was fairly warm so the kids decided
to go outside and play some football. The kids who didn't play
football stayed inside and painted.

The members went crazy and recruited SEVEN new members. Wow, way
to go! Each member who brought a friend earned points. My
craft for that night was going to take several meetings to
complete. We started the first step tonight with all 16 members
present. Paper Mache!! What was I thinking? It was
wild. We had flour paste all over the floor, all over our clothes
and all over each other. I think the kids had more fun playing in
the paste then they did actually putting it on the balloons.
Needless to say, with this many kids it took most of the meeting
to get the craft done. We were able to fit in our refreshments,
pledge and played 4-H Bingo. We left the craft to dry for the
next meeting.
December 8, 2003 Back
My loyal five members were present. This five youth are at every
meeting and is what 4-H is about. I have watched these five grow
and develop great relationships. Well, now I have 16 paper mache
ballons and only five kids to finish them up. So, I gave the kids
there choice of whatever balloons they wanted. So, now that the
balloons were dry, it was time to paint. We used Christmas colors
of red and green, with some blue and yellow thrown in. The kids
painted the paper mache ballons and when they were finished it was time
for the hooks. We made hooks out of gold glittery pipe
clearers. We cut holes in the top of the ballons and fed the pipe
cleaners through and back up through the top and twisted them together
to make a gold ring. Now for the final step. We took spray
cans of gold and silver glitter and covered all the ballons. Did
you figure out what we made yet? You got it, we made Christmas
tree ornaments. Big ones! We let the ornaments dry and had
our refreshments. After refreshments were done, we learned to
play a new card game called "Hit the Deck with your Hand". It is
sort of like Uno. The kids really liked it and we all played
several rounds of the game. The kids were able to take their
ornaments home that night.

Six members were present! These kids are so wonderful.
Tonight the kids were asked to bring something for "Show &
Tell". I figured this could be the first step to introducing them
to demonstrations and talks. All five stood up in front of all
present, one at a time, and talked about what they had brought.
Even my two little Cloverbuds stood up there! I am so proud of
them. We didn't complete a craft tonight since we needed time for
Show and Tell. After the show was done, we had our
refreshments. After we were all finished, we cleaned up our mess
and played Bingo. Since in 4-H Bingo we used words instead of
numbers, this time we used traditional Bingo cards with numbers, so the
Cloverbuds could play. The member who won got points and the
other members received candy.

The meeting was cancelled due to bad weather.
February 10, 2004 Back
We
decided to
try and move the meetings to Tuesdays to help with some of the
scheduling conflicts. 9 members attending this meeting with the
arrival of one new member. We were going to try and make
Valentine's Day Boxes for the kids to take to school for their
parties. We didn't have enough boxes, so to make it fair for
everyone we decided not to make the boxes. We are going to save
the boxes and make Easter Baskets out of them in March. Instead,
we had "movie night" and watched a movie and ate our refreshments
during the movie. Once the kids lost interest in the movie, we
went back to the meeting room and played Bingo and their favorite card
games. The kids voted to keep having the meetings twice a month
instead of switching to once a month. So, I asked the kids to let
their parents know that we need some help. Hopefully, we will get
some parent help soon.
